This article provides little support for the idea that Martin's opposition to animal cruelty should be described in terms of "animal rights activism." I'm quite certain that the name is an anachronism, and in any case it would be helpful to know precisely what Martin's opinions were on the ethics of treatment of animals. — Preceding

The section "Active Life" devotes almost an entire paragraph to the Great Famine, which occurred a decade after Martin's death. It reveals more about his descendants than about Richard Martin himself. — Preceding
