@ Magicpiano: and others: I can see that the cited Field source describes the burning of the Spitfire in March 1777 to prevent capture. But some other sources ( [1] and [2]) seem to indicate that the Spitfire was captured by the British on May 25, 1778. Not sure how to reconcile these, but I will add a tag for now since it conflicts with material (using sources above) that I've recently added to the USS Spitfire (1776) article.-- GregRM ( talk) 00:23, 1 August 2017 (UTC)
