Starting RR spectroscopy talk page
Having read this article, I felt a lot of this material was related to Raman spectroscopy and not resonance Raman spec. per se, I am not an expert on this technique although I do know the basics but was wondering if anyone knew enough to clear this up, clarify and move that which is not about this specific technique to the main Raman page. Obviously a brief intro to the underlying Raman scattering is useful, but from there it should be linked to the main page rather than an indepth discussion. Does anyone agree with this? I added a multiple issues template to the Basic Theory section. It does give a great overview of the basic theory, all right, but a) it cites no sources and b) deals almost entirely with ordinary Raman scattering, and we have an article for that. The article as a whole could also use some more sourcing. I'm knowledgeable about this method and will try to do some cleanup and expansion in the next few weeks. I have finished my rewrite of the article, and I gave it the WP:TNT treatment. The problems with the article were 1) too little focus on resonance Raman spectroscopy, with almost everything having to do with Raman spectroscopy in general (and therefore duplicating much of the content of the Raman spectroscopy article); and 2) very few sources cited. I've added a lot of relevant citations, kept many of the few citations that were already there, and provided some useful figures (replacing the figures that were already there; my energy level diagram at the top is easier to read, and the picture of the Raman microscope added nothing to the article and had nothing to do with RRS...so I replaced it with sample spectra, kindly provided by a colleague).
The article is much better but still not perfect. Someone with a more theoretical background should probably go through and augment the theory section. Also a "history" section might be nice but I don't have the capacity for that right now. Efremov et al. in the reference list would be a good starting point if anyone wants to try and build in a history section. WeirdNAnnoyed ( talk) 21:16, 4 August 2023 (UTC)
