On 17 June 2023, it was proposed that this article be moved to Red flag. The result of the discussion was not moved. |
I doubt this very much. As a commonwealth English speaker at least, "to raise a red flag" means not just "please pay attention", but that "something is very, VERY wrong". I imagine it's more likely to come from the railways, where a red flag was - and is - recognised as an urgent danger signal. FiggyBee 17:32, 25 February 2006 (UTC)
I seem to recall reading that a red pennant was a warning to a maritime enemy one was about to engage that no quarter would be asked or given. Anyone have anything on this, and should it be included here?
