This is a mess. Editors have been going back and forth on this and changing parts of lines without ensuring that everything is consistent. Refs in the article give us:
Not in the article as far as I know is the AB government's 2019 population report https://open.alberta.ca/dataset/daab9fce-c2f6-49d1-a433-375b2b7aee24/resource/61cd908d-e2b9-4837-939b-533848d723b9/download/2019_mapl_web.pdf. The population numbers are the same as in the cited media reports for the 2019 municipal census. So, per the 2016 federal or municipal census, Red Deer was larger. Per the 2019 municipal census Lethbrrdge was larger.
I'm simply going to rewrite the lead lead to say that Red Deer was the third largest Alberta city as of the 2016 Federal census, but that it had fallen to fourth largest (after Lethbridge) as of the 2019 municipal census. Meters ( talk) 04:02, 26 June 2020 (UTC)
