Svane was born in Denmark to Danish parents, so he surely holds the Danish citizenship. He's been living in Germany for the largest part of his life and is probably more German than Danish by now, but no evidence whatever can be found if he holds the German citizenship, too (which would be legally very easy for him). The link in the first sentence was broken and I fixed it, but there is no mentioning of his citizenship there.

This is due to the special situation in chess, where the federation is more important than citizenship. As a big exception in the world of sports in chess you can play for a national team without being a citizen of that country as long as you are a member of the federation. Note that Levon Aronian is Armenian but plays for the US and a US flag is shown next to his name or place. There are many more examples like Richard Rapport and others.
