The article says "On 3 September 2003 Kilo Moana was delivered to the U.S. Navy as a Kilo Moana-class oceanographic research ship and leased to the University of Hawaii on the same day."

I was on research cruise 0205 on the Kilo Moana in Sept.-Oct. 2002. Surely the 2003 is a typographic error, although I have seen the same year noted on University of Hawaii web pages.
