Hey, I want to explain
this edit because I removed a lot of material. I thought the "Origins" section was redundant to the "Emergence" section, and not as good, so I cut it. In the "Appeal..." section, I get that all the material before the last paragraph is meant to provide a context, but it's too long, is a little off-topic, and can best be summed up by the first clause in the last paragraph: "Because education was spare and literacy uncommon...". Ultimately, I cut the last paragraph, too, because it was also redundant to the "Emergence" section. I am going to go ahead and copy edit the remaining material, try to add some sources, and do some formatting tweaks.
