Well, Broom first described it in 1898, splitting some genera off from another family. The type genus he used was Burramys, which he had described in 1896. "Burs-" means pouch and "mys" means mouse. See Greek_and_Latin_roots_in_English - UtherSRG (talk) 08:46, 16 May 2010 (UTC) reply
