It was reported on a blog, March 23rd 2012, that president
Hamid Karzai had scrapped the holiday from the (starting March 20 instead of 21 in 2012)
national calendar of year 1391 (but that the decision was contested).

"It was reported on May 20th, 2012, that Afghanistan's Parliament "on Saturday" (prob. May 19th, 2012) voted to make September 9 a new annual national holiday to honour national hero Ahmad Shah Massoud and those who died fighting for the country."
