The article claims: "Operations were maintained and staffed by the Royal Navy." A scholar working for Parks Canada writes, however: "the Marine was a small Canadian hybrid navy, naval in work but military in administration. It came under the command of the governor and commander of the forces in British North America and was superintended by the Quarter-Master General's department of the army." "Who were the sailors of the provincial marine? For the most part they were civilian mariners recruited on contract by the Deputy Quarter Master Department." Two individuals named James Richardson served as Lieutenants in the Provincial Marine in 1812. One of them (probably the father) was the captain of the Governor Simcoe when it was sunk during an American attack on Kingston in November 1812. He had been a quartermaster in the Royal Navy. His son lost an arm in battle. His biography says that he was given a payment of 100 pounds, even though he was not a commissioned officer. Geo Swan ( talk) 14:00, 9 September 2013 (UTC)
