Common meaning

This term is almost always used to refer to conversion therapy. Looking at a Google search, discounting the Wikipedia result, of course, Lisa Ling's show gets one out of nine results on the first page. Similar results on all the subsequent pages. It is clear that nearly everyone who types in this phrase is looking for conversion therapy. Since the term "conversion therapy" is so vague, most people without much knowledge on the topic won't know that name and will know it better by the name that specifically describes what it attempts to do. You can't tell how a term is most often used from one Google search. There actually is a world beyond the internet, and the results that you got from one search on one search engine don't show anything about how a term is most often used in the real world. "Pray the gay away" should redirect to the most similarly named Wikipedia article, per common sense. Hebradaeum ( talk) 05:39, 26 November 2012 (UTC) reply
Oh, and note that "most people without much knowledge on the topic won't know" the name "conversion therapy" and will think of it as "Pray the gay away" is just your unsupported claim. It doesn't settle anything. Hebradaeum ( talk) 05:39, 26 November 2012 (UTC) reply
The idea that most people do know it's called conversion therapy is your unsupported opinion. My opinion is not unsupported - I provided evidence. You have provided nothing except you "unsupported opinion" Ego White Tray ( talk) 13:12, 26 November 2012 (UTC) reply
NO. You did not provide "evidence". You made a comment about what you allegedly found from a search engine. That is not evidence. Anyone can make any claim about what they found in a search engine. Hebradaeum ( talk) 03:23, 28 November 2012 (UTC) reply

Agree with User:Ego White Tray. "Pray the gay away" should be redirected to "Conversion therapy". User:Hebradaeum's argument that "Pray the gay away" should redirect to the most similarly named Wikipedia article is absurd, it is like saying that "Big Apple" should be redirected to Big Apple (TV series) and we all know that it is a nickname for New York City.-- В и к и T 11:51, 26 November 2012 (UTC) reply

Under most circumstances, redirects should obviously redirect to the most similarly named article. That doesn't mean that there can't be exceptions. It might be reasonable to redirect "pray away the gay" to "conversion therapy" if it were as established a term for conversion therapy as "Big apple" is for New York City. Ego White Tray provided no evidence of any kind that such is the case. He made a claim about what he found from a search engine, and that claim is not evidence of anything. Umm, Google ranks it search results by what pages link to (for the most part - it's more complicated than that). So, if Google search results for "pray the gay away" all point to articles on conversion therapy, it means the entire internet is linking pay the gay away to conversion therapy.
