I'm a bit confused by the statement "Sir J.G.Bremer took possession of the mainland on 20 September 1824 and founded the short-lived colony". Later in the section, it states that the settlement was founded in 1838, and this is in accord with the sources I have to hand, including G.S. Ritchie's very useful The Admiralty Chart (1967), which I will add to the reference list. Any clues as to what happened in 1824 would be appreciated. Kognos ( talk) 12:18, 24 March 2020 (UTC)
Victoria was the name of the settlement .... Port Essington is a rather large body of water. Thinking of proposing a rename. Reactions?? Ariconte ( talk) 01:01, 28 July 2022 (UTC)
