A white formerly wooden and now metal cross on the rocks below Battery Peak marks the extent of the authority of the ancient Priory of Tywardreath. It is also associated with a legend, also found elsewhere in Cornwall, to the effect that the young Christ child accompanied by Joseph of Arimathea landed on the rocks, before making their way to Glastonbury: hence the hill above being named for St Saviours. Another legend has Pontius Pilate landing at these rocks on his journey seeking redemption. Richard Binstead ( talk) 10:20, 1 April 2023 (UTC)
