Hi, change: proposed an additional reference weblink to this source (witness account of a political prisoner).
The German version of the site is listed as weblink at the German Wikipedia page for this topic: https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Politische_Haft_(DDR) Gumbalaya ( talk) 21:19, 26 August 2022 (UTC) reply
I am not familiar with the systema and edit modes. The change was inquired because the domain changed (old: stasiprison.org). Please check of the link works and resolves the correct source for this witness account. Gumbalaya ( talk) 10:10, 5 September 2023 (UTC) reply

Re-add Abdullah "Apo" Öcalan to the list

On 13 November 2022, Wikipedia user Savy Wotton removed Abdullah Öcalan from the heading infobox, noting that "abdullah öcalan is not a political prisoner, is a terrorist". Later it was discovered that that account was a sockpuppet of user CarlostheJackal01. The investigation from 2022-2023 reveals multiple abuses of pages relating to highly politicized topics, including articles such as List of terrorist incidents in 1970, Falls Curfew, List of criminal enterprises, gangs, and syndicates, Corporate crime, and War crime, straying away from neutral language, and as FDW777 put it, "Usual focus on terrorism in Turkey related articles".

The webpage for Öcalan already had discussions about the legitimacy of referring to him as a political prisoner; see: Talk:Abdullah_Öcalan/Archive_2#Not_a_political_prisoner.

Major points from this previous discussion:

  • "...he is banned from holding a public office for life and engaged heavily in the peace process through his books and messages released from prison."
  • "The EU court ruled he did not receive a fair trial."
  • "Öcalan is seen by many independent sources as a political prisoner."
  • "...he's been referred to as a political prisoner by the Turkish govt itself."

Perhaps there may not be a need to re-add him to the infobox, as it appears clean now with only four characters, but I suggest that he is at least added to the article's list of individuals. 162.223.16.74 ( talk) 20:02, 11 July 2024 (UTC) reply
