Just reading the opening of this text, it seems like given the numbers cited the setting can't be so near future, it would have to be something like 2080 at the earliest wouldn't it? A lot can happen in 65 years. Plus it seems odd, given the extensive commentary at the front of the book concerning copyright that people would still be fighting copyright law rough and tumble in 2080. Is this an alternative universe or what? And given the subject matter, it seems completely at odds with the authors preface, "Today, October 2, 2012 is the hardest it will ever be to copy things.
