The claim of the Philadelphia Lazaretto as the first quarantine hospital in the United States is false. According to the National Park Service, Georgia commissioned their quarantine hospital in 1749 and construction completed in 1768 on Tybee Island, Georgia. The quarantine hospital operated through the Revolution then relocated to nearby Cockspur Island in 1785.
