One brief paragraph mentioning his relationship with Princess Margaret? Come on! Get real. That's a bit like writing a biography of Adolf Hitler and saying: "Was briefly involved in German and European politics"! 70.162.228.134 ( talk) 03:57, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
Am I remembering correctly that his second marriage also ended in divorce? 109.157.20.61 ( talk) 19:40, 1 January 2013 (UTC)
We need some clarification as to how he was credited at one point with 11 victories but "ended the war" with only 9. Inline citations would help. Catrìona ( talk) 18:32, 3 March 2018 (UTC)
The government sought to discourage their relationship by urging Princess Margaret to wait two years to marry...
User:SovalValtos: You added {{ Citation needed}} in jan 2023 diff [1]. It included as reason=most capable, when the actual text in the article was one of the most capable squadron leaders, which is a significant difference.
Also, the in jan 2023 in the article already existed references from The London Gazette, e.g. from citations for his DFC. Several most relevant parts (for claim that he was one of the most capable...) were also (already then) directly qouted in the article. That included (also then already existing) references to The London Gazette for citation when he received his DSO, and that from when he received his bar to DFC; they all support that one of most capable. E.g. (one which is not quoted in the article; previous editor seemed to not want to overquote the article):
This is the third success obtained by this pilot and in each instance he has displayed qualities of leadership, skill and determination of the highest order, with little regard for his own safety.
That he was only flight lieutenant in citation for the DFC (2556 The London Gazette, 30 APRIL, 1940), and acting wing commander on May 13 of the same year when he received DSO (about two weeks later, also then already sourced to the London Gazette in the article), all support that claim. That he was confirmed from acting to permanent wing commander (also already sourced) also supports it.
So IMO need for Citation needed at that place in the article is dubious, but before removing it I'd like the opinion of SovalValtos: if he agrees that existing references I mentioned above are enough he can remove it himself if he wishes. If he opposes it, he can let me know here. If he agrees those citations are valid and enough, but he would prefer those citation should be also explicitly cited where now is the template, I can change relevant existing citations to named ones, and add all references to those named citations also to the place where now is that citation needed. I think it would be unnecessary, but I can do it if other editors think it really is necessary. Marjan Tomki SI ( talk) 13:27, 10 February 2024 (UTC)
