I changed the main photo from File:Santa Fe gas chamber.jpg to File:NM State Pen Unit 4.jpg. While both are excellent photos on their own, the latter one seems a lot more informative about the penitentiary as a whole. I moved the gas chamber photo to the article, since it's too good a photo not to use. If someone wants to swap them back, that's fine, but I think the Unit 4 photo should be in the article, since it's (presumably) a better representation of the facility's current, day-to-day operations. @ Grayfell: I can see where you are coming from, since the riots are a major part of why the pen is semi-famous. I have emailed the media relations people at the NM Department of Corrections and am hoping to get permission to use this photo in the article. If I can't, then I'll probably drive up to Sante Fe and take my own photo and release it to the public domain. teratogen ( talk) 06:44, 17 November 2013 (UTC) reply
That would be a great photo. I actually wasn't thinking of the riots when I made this edit, although I am aware of them. I just thought a gas chamber (which has only been used once, if I'm not mistaken) seemed less informative than the cells. Informative? Is that the word I'm looking for? Anyway, I agree that a photo of the building from the outside would be much better for the infobox, by far. Grayfell ( talk) 07:12, 17 November 2013 (UTC) reply

@ WhisperToMe, Grayfell, Dr. Blofeld, and Bejnar: I just negotiated with a photographer on Flickr who had a bunch of GREAT photos of PNM that I think could benefit both the article for Penitentiary of New Mexico, but the riot as well. I'm displaying the pictures below - which do you think should be used in this article?

Photos look great, well done!! I was actually eyeing up Leavenworth but this one might be worth it. I saw it on a documentary a while back, that battle was a brutal one!! If we expand the article enough they can all be used.♦ Dr. Blofeld 22:43, 23 December 2013 (UTC) reply

The death bed would be great in a section on the capital punishment as administered there, and the burn marks on the part about the riot. The burn marks one can go in the riot article too. WhisperToMe ( talk) 23:13, 23 December 2013 (UTC) reply
@ WhisperToMe: I forgot one picture. Check out the picture of the gas chamber and let me know which you think should be used. Skarz ( talk) 23:31, 23 December 2013 (UTC) reply
( edit conflict)Wow! Excellent photos. I think the rec yard is a good choice for main photo, although I would also be satisfied with the guard tower or the cell block. Grayfell ( talk) 23:36, 23 December 2013 (UTC) reply
