Unit history?

This article is rather problematic as regards the regimental history:

In the 'History' section it states: "On 14 September 1866 the 36th Peel battalion was authorized". Is that it? I thought there would be more. No 'why' it was "authorized", or by whom. Or anything else for that matter.
I then turned to the section 'The Peel and Dufferin Regiment (1923-1936)', hoping to get some information on its demise; but no, the last sentence merely refers to some "white facings".

Its like trying to read a book with the first and last pages missing.
