Just came across this because of its COTM nomination for WikiProject Vancouver. I don't currently have a copy of The Newspapering Murrays by Georgina Keddell, about her parents George and "Ma" Murray, but in it there's a lengthy passage explaining their involvement in the creation and opening of Peace Arch Park and, I think, in the selection of the mottos decorating it. If someone is doing the COTM work here the book in question is in most public and university libraries and has all kinds of interesting bits in it; they also instigated the public funeral for Joe Fortes and George apparently was instrumental in the foundation of the Boy Scouts of Canada as reportorial assignment for the Ottawa Citizen, whose editor had the G-G down his butt to get it started. Juicy stuff overall, but the seat-of-the-pants style of the Murrays had a lot to do with the Peace Arch, apparently. Skookum1 20:26, 13 July 2006 (UTC)
