frankly, I think BL was parodying novels of his time in general in this work.

It must've been widely reviewed or something or the first line would've been lost to the sands of time. He either was already well-known as an author or the book was actually good enough to be read by enough people. --Gaviidae 82.95.194.147 14:36, 4 November 2007 (UTC)
Image:LordLytton Omnibus.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use.
