Apollo flights which weren't taken to Pago Pago

This begs the question of why the remaining Apollo lunar and post-lunar flights (8, 11, 15 and 16, plus Skylab and ASTP) weren't taken to Pago Pago. Looking at the map, it's probably because most of them were closer to Hawaii, and might have been in direct hellicopter range (or after a brief steam.) Practically on the Equator, Apollo 16 looks about equidistant from Pago Pago and Hawaii. (Apollo 7 and 9, Earth orbital flights, splashed down in the Atlantic.)

This might be worth mentioning in the article; does your source specify why the other flights didn't go there? JustinTime55 ( talk) 18:04, 24 February 2011 (UTC) reply
