Some mention of the Ottoman Navy's routes concurrent to WW1 should be made. -- NEMT ( talk) 20:39, 16 June 2009 (UTC)
Isn't that pure piracy? A fleet that goes somewhere 'just to raid' sounds like piracy. -- 94.71.93.204 ( talk) 18:01, 18 November 2009 (UTC)
Marked this passage dubious
All the sources I've seen (that weren't so lazy they start with Gallipoli) claim the Turks' first European fortress was Tzympe in 1352. That was a Byzantine fortress they either took over or raided. Is there a name and a cite for this earlier, Turkish-constructed fortress? — LlywelynII 08:26, 3 September 2011 (UTC)

Any article on the Ottoman Navy needs to mention its role in the beginning of the Ottomans' involvement in WW1 - the attack on the Russian Black Sea coast on 29 Oct 1914. This began the Ottoman's involvement in the war.
