Why can't otafest go into the LIST OF ANIME CONVENTIONS?
Otafest is the ONLY anime convention in Calgary. It's not some small party with 100 people, its a big convention with movies, market, and stuffu... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nakjisanjeok ( talk • contribs)
While doing some research, I found out that there have been articles about Otafest in the Calgary Sun. But unfortunately those people would want $40 to find me the article. If anyone has it, please post it!! Thanks! Kopf1988 22:27, 2 July 2007 (UTC)
The 2001 convention also was marred by the interference of the Alberta Film Board[4]. Otafest had not submitted their list of presentations to the Film Board which meant that none of the shows had been rated. As all festivals are required by law to submit their presentations for review, the film board gave Otafest two options: shut down or have every show rated 18A. This meant that all participants would require identification to watch every show being presented at otafest, even anime that would be considered rated G such as Sailor Moon or Pokemon.
This is a pretty weaselly statement, isn't it? Saying that an official government body interfered with an event is not the same as event staff's failure to comply with a publically-available government regulation. It's not like these sorts of things come out of the clear blue. I've edited this to better reflect the fact that it would not be the Film Board's fault, but Otafest's itself. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.210.56.177 ( talk) 20:17, 12 October 2007 (UTC)
