Onela is a character in Beowulf. Equating him with Áli in the Nordic sagas on a different isle several centuries later, is not entirely without problems, as for example the thesis by Carl Edlund Anderson points out. So I will revert User:Berig's deletion of my contribution. He deleted the comment although a detailed reference was given. / Pieter Kuiper 14:25, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
I will revert the etymology to what is actually written in the source. I had provided a detailed reference. The link in the older version that User:Berig reverted to is actually dead. Berig should not delete contributions by others as a spinal reflex - WP:OWN. He should welcome participation by others. / Pieter Kuiper 14:25, 8 August 2007 (UTC)
I don't know enough about old Norse to be able to determine this myself, but why is "hinn Upplenzki" tranlsated as "from Uppland" and not "from Oppland"? The latter would seem more logical considering Ale was a Norwegian king, and it is also how his name is rendered in the latest Swedish translation of Heimskringla.
