The article has the statement The main stairwell in the College building contains trapdoors which, when opened, allow creation of a vertical shaft akin to a mine. This appears to be impeccably referenced, citing a listing on the state's heritage register. I have a doubt, since I always understood the simulated mine to have been fabricated using trapdoors in the tower part of the building, not in the "main stairwell"—which would have to be the well for the jarrah stairs at the building's rear. I'll undertake to check this with the Heritage Council in case there's a reason for the apparent misunderstanding. Cheers Bjenks ( talk) 02:41, 12 October 2008 (UTC)
Emphasis added. The paragraph is in the context of the (WWII) war years. Cheers, Bjenks ( talk) 13:42, 29 February 2012 (UTC)Mining students and staff were sometimes classified as "a nuisance". They did commit a "nuisance" too. These ingenious people improvised a mining shaft in the St George's Terrace tower. It consisted of a series of trap doors which allowed students to work their way downwards to ground level from the top storey, taking instrument readings on the way. These were vociferiously (sic) enunciated—to the chagrin of those desiring peace and quiet.
