Name in Old Nubian

It was the capital of Makouria but I can't find anything with the name in the published Nubian inscriptions: most of the work so far has been in Pakhoras because of the mess with the Aswan Dam. Transactions of the Society of Biblical Archaeology has the old city as "Dongoul;" the German wiki has Tungul - which is presumably from some variant of Ⲇⲟⲩⲛⲅⲟⲩⲗ, Doungoul, but perhaps used a ⲱ (or two ⲅs (or the Nubian ⳟ (or lacked one of the ⲩ originally))). So anyway, I just left the German transcription without the Old Nubian characters. Modern Greek is no help at all: Ντόνγκολα, Ntongkola. - LlywelynII ( talk) 04:31, 20 June 2009 (UTC) reply
