Did the Vietnamese Democratic Republic officially recognize language rights for the Thai and Chinese minorities? Because why do those languages appear on the Vietnamese currency in 1945? Le Anh-Huy ( talk) 08:48, 28 November 2007 (UTC) reply

Traditionally, from the French Indochina times, money denominations were written in Vietnamese, Chinese, Khmer and Lao. I've never heard about Thai language on Vietnamese currency... Pyvanet ( talk) 16:11, 28 November 2007 (UTC) reply

OK, thanks, you two, for the clarification. However, I assumed it was Thai because this was the currency of the DRV ('45-'76), and thought that the writing was from the Thai/Tai/Tay minorities in the northwest. Le Anh-Huy 15:33, 4 December 2007 (UTC) reply

This language appears on Vietnamese currency from 40's to early 50's, but not till 76 as you say. The latest one is probably Tra Vinh local issue - that is next to Cambodian border. Pyvanet 20:58, 4 December 2007 (UTC) reply
