I started some cleanup and will continue as time allows (which may not be much in near future). However, I agree with Olessi that this is obviously a machine translation, at least the first section. North German plain → North German Plain — 'Plain' should be capitalised as it is a proper noun in this case, and is capitalised by other publications, such as Britannica.
