Disputed claim

The engines of on-road vehicles have advanced emission controls which are not found on those non-road engines. The non-road engines also emit air pollution particles at much higher rates

Fairly broad claim, with not much context - needs calling out, and if true a good reference. There are many types of "non-road" engine - why are they claimed to be worse? Prof.Haddock ( talk) 00:47, 18 August 2014 (UTC) reply

Non-road engine?

I have never heard such a term used in the USA or Canada to describe an engine not used in a highway vehicle.  Disregarding aircraft and marine applications, the term usually used is “off-highway”. 216.152.18.132 ( talk) 08:56, 7 July 2024 (UTC) reply

Read the sources linked. We might need to mention both terms here. It's not unusual that one term is in common use, but the regulations are written with another. Andy Dingley ( talk) 09:27, 7 July 2024 (UTC) reply
