Newer Version of this once-stub

Today I tried my hand at fleshing out a stub. I put in the base article, then added footnotes and some categories. What remains for me now is to complete the links to other wiki-articles. Hopefully, I'll do this right. As to content, let me say emphatically that the data available through the world wide web is not to be trusted very much! I sought primary documents (Thank you, Champlain Society!) and authoritative authors with corroboration. LTC David J. Cormier ( talk) 21:23, 3 January 2008 (UTC) reply

Just a note: while primary sources can be very good, wikipedia usually relies on secondary sources. Wikipedia articles are supposed to reflect the analysis of experts and not contain new analysis ( original research). Some primary sources can be incorporated, though. See the wiki policy on reliable sources for more info. Karanacs ( talk) 14:31, 4 January 2008 (UTC) reply

Additions about Natives

The paragraph in Early Years about natives declining might be a bit POV. Other authors can reinforce the judgement. I wonder, though, if it's an observation that is outside of the scope of Denys' experiences, and therefore might belong in the article about whichever native group - the Mi'kmaq? - it references.
