Reason for move? -- Chris (クリス • フィッチュ) ( talk) 08:26, 28 June 2010 (UTC)
None of the sources quoted here back up Ngerulmud being the capital of Palau.
The first source from the US Department of State quotes Melekeok as the capital. It quotes the population as 391, which is the population of Melekeok State, suggesting the entire state is the capital not the tiny site of Ngerulmud.
The second source, the inaugural address, merely quotes the address of the new Capitol Building, Ngerulmud in the state of Melekeok. This does not make Ngerulmud the capital city, it doesn't even say whether Ngerulmud is a village or merely a site. Likewise the third source only gives an address for a building.
The fourth source - google earth completely contradicts what has been said in this article and puts Melekeok as the capital, it doesn't even acknowledge the existence of Ngerulmud, from what I can work out it is either a site or that tiny village adjacent to the capital. In addition, Google Earth comes up with a blank when one searches for Ngerulmud. Therefore, Google Earth should be removed as a source.
The following sources quote Melekeok as the capital.
https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/geos/ps.html http://www.state.gov/r/pa/ei/bgn/1840.htm (US Department of State)
Just to note, I've provided no evidence to say Ngerulmud isn't the capital, only clarified the lack of evidence in the sources that have been used previously. The only reliable sources I've found quote Melekeok as the capital. I'd really like some clarification on this point. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.6.71.1 ( talk) 15:08, 20 December 2010 (UTC)
Does anyone have any information on WHY the capital was moved from Koror to Melekeok? I've been looking for anything I can find and nothing says anything about the reason or purpose of the move, only thing I can find are questions as to whether the capital is Melekeok or Ngerulmud.
All I have is a personal guess that (given that Melekeok seems no more unique an area than the rest of the island and the new capital building stands fairly alone) the government may be trying to construct a new (possibly planed) capital away from established population centers. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.202.113.212 ( talk) 01:41, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
