This article is one I copied from Everything2 a long while ago. It probably needs some updating; lots of the non-NYC stuff should be (or is) in 4-6-4, for one thing. —Morven 18:34, Dec 17, 2004 (UTC)
Since I wrote this, I now believe that the European 4-6-4 tanks were first (thus Baltic), but I don't have a cite either way. Matthew Brown (Morven) ( T: C) 07:13, 2 March 2006 (UTC)
The first Baltics were two compounds designed by Du Bousquet and built for the Nord Railway in France in 1911. They were allegedly for the Paris - St Petersburg express service, hence the name Baltic. They were tender engines, not tank enegines. One in fact survives in the Cité du Train at Mulhouse - see http://www.railfaneurope.net/pix/fr/steam/misc_Nord/pix.html .
There is no documentation in this article indicating that the engine --the subject of the article-- carried the Commodore Vanderbilt train. Therefore, the redirect from Commodore Vanderbilt (train) to this article needs to be struck. Dogru144 ( talk) 01:19, 20 November 2020 (UTC)
