Nell Painter has had a significant career as an artist upon retirement. She has several works in permanent collections across the US. Her wikipage should be updated to reflect this. — Preceding

I have read Dr. Painter, and learned a lot from her. I know a stub like this cannot cover everything, but I sure wish it included an explanation of her surname. Was she married to a Mr. Painter? Did she pick it and add it on just to sound different? No clue is given.

According to
Encyclopedia.com: She married Glenn R. Shafer, a professor of business, in 1989. An earlier marriage to Colin Painter, a teacher of linguistics, ended in divorce. I'm sure there are other sources but this was the first I found that answered the question.
