Capitalization

Whether "Marine" is capitalized as a proper noun (as is Democrat or Catholic, for example) or treated as a common noun (like soldier or sailor) is debatable, and it has been debated without resolution. Both the AP style guide [1] and the New York Times [2] capitalize it. Either way, an article about a dog memorial in Guam is not the place to decide it. Feel free to take the issue to United States Marine Corps, if you're feeling frisky. Kafziel Complaint Department: Please take a number 13:54, 26 September 2013 (UTC) reply
