Cool bro, this discussion form is creating a hot debate. As I stay in laskhar mohalla I see lots of muslim brethen buy, sell and read the newpapers that have been mentioned in "vernacular press". I myself have participated the urs of Tipu sultan and there is no doubt about it. I agree with nazia about a clean up of this page and i have started a research. Infobox:indian cities is trying to change the indian history, just like pakistan is doing by removing mahatma gandhi from their history books. Come lets work together, Jai hind.
Mohan
Dear Members,
And to the assertion that don't remove anything that does not belong to you ... this is wikipedia.
Whats a vernacular press? Pasbaan and daily salaar are a vernacular press as are Mysore mitra and andolana. Vernacular simply means "local" langauge spoken by people in a place. The point is simple put pasbaan and daily salar under the newspaper section or edit the new of vernacular press by adding Mysore mitra and andolana.
Mohan
I totally agree with Mohan, mitra and andolana should be moved into vernacular section. As mitra and andolana are kannada newspapers as with regards to pasbaan and daily salaar and all these nespapers are vernacular

Who is Mr pradeep to add or remove tags from wiki?
If I am right,no one can remove anything from wiki until further announcement to other members on this page! this is just not right. To observe and witness the Tipu Sultan urs you should be present in mandi mohalla and asoka road.where you can observe this event and i cant imagine how mysoreans are unaware of this event. I am adding this source from a leading newspaper AND for pity's sake dont say its Propoganda and that Meena bazaar and Sawday road does not exist! Why have you targeted this area specifically and to my knowledge there are many additions in "Mysore page" without proper references. This is an appeal to all members on this page."Make Mysore beautiful" i.e dont take off anything that does not belong to you!

Major Layout changes introduced to clean up the page. Includes a new infobox india city -- IMpbt 22:05, 20 Feb 2005 (UTC)
We have been having a discussion in the Kannada language Wiki] about why DVG has been included in personalities from Mysore.
DVG grew up in Kolar district, and spent most of his later life in Bangalore. The only years he spent in Mysore were when he was in high school. imho that is not enough to classify him as a personality from Mysore. He should be in a list of personalities from either Bangalore or Kolar (or both). I have removed his name from the list in this article. -- ashwatha 22:00, 24 Feb 2005 (UTC)

Dinesh Kannambadi
Hi, The Muslim population of mysore city is more than 2,00,000 so it makes sense that at least 25% population of mysore city is muslim. The northern and eastern parts of mysore are dominated by muslim.Suburbs like Mandi Mohalla, Laskar mohalla, Half of NR mohalla, half of bannimantap, JSS nagar, siddique nagar, rajiv nagar, Udaygiri, Kesere,Goshinagar, beedi colony, kalyangiri, bada makan,Shanti nagar, parts of urs naidu nagar have a considerable muslim population.Muslims also live in hindu dominated areas.
PLEASE TAKE STATISTICAL DATA OF MYSORE CITY AND NOT MYSORE DISTRICT! 1. out of 2,00,000 voters in NR constituency, muslims number about 70,000. http://www.hindu.com/2004/04/13/stories/2004041310060300.htm 2. Muslim population and registered voters in 1997 for the whole of mysore..men 65000 and women 70000 and the muslim population 250,000. http://www.islamicvoice.com/may.97/community.htm 3. out of a million mysoreans 20% are muslims http://www.islamicvoice.com/December2004/CommunityRound-Up/?PHPSESSID=c89b3b5c3220a51450f8090b7d3ba876 4. 25% to this report. http://www.geocities.com/adnan022/aa.html
My freind, you have muslim data from mysore district and not from mysore city.
my clarification for your parts. 1. Table 2: District -wise Break-up of Urdu Population in Karnataka....your source my freind. http://www.languageinindia.com/dec2002/urduinkarnataka.html 2. Even the total muslim population in your source is basically wrong. In your source(Table 4: District wise Break-up of Muslim/Urdu Population Ratio)says 52.3 lakhs and remember it says total "muslim population" and "urdu population" is 44.8 lacks.[ this is for karnataka state] 3.In my source, which is a reliable source i.e government census of india puts karnataka muslim population at 64 lakhs and from your source it says 52 lakhs. So there is a gap of nearly 12 lakhs from both of our sources. 4. YOUR SOURCE WAS PUT UP IN 2002 AND MINE IN 2001. so logically speaking muslim population should have increased...but unfortunely in your source it has decreased. 5. Mine is a reliable source than yours as it is a government website wheras yours was a visiting Prof from Cornell University and not a government website. 6. You should provide data only for mysore city and not mysore districts. as both terms are different.
I have proved that your only source is not reliable and can you prove my source is wrong. And muslim population in mysore is not 7% but more than 20%
Mujeer Ahmed Khan, Melbourne, Australia. Mujeerkhan@hotmail.com
I have been repeatedly removing some false material being added to Mysore demographics. I have tried to explain earlier that the total population of Mysore district is ~31 lacs, 2002, of which Muslim population is 2.3 lacs making it around 7.4%. Even if all the muslims in mysore district lived in Mysore city with a toal population of approximately 10 lacs, the muslim population would be ~22%. However it would be foolish to make such an assumption as muslims are spread out over mysore district, just as they are in most parts of the state. I am not sure why this has not figured in the thinking of the vandal who has been making repeated edits to this section claiming the Muslim population of Mysore is 45%. Please lets be educated and think a little before putting in baseless data. I have requested earlier that the person maiking this edit give his login name so we can sort this out but this has not happened either. Also, is there any way we can stop repeat vandalism? Can this be reported to the wiki admin?
Dinesh Kannambadi
Please refrain from using blog sites which provide no source or detailed study. The blog sites you have linked the demographics section to are propaganda based without any author or source. Such sites are a menace and misleading. The link I have provided is compiled by Central Institute of Indian Languages and the authors are reputed ones. Also if you notice, the main author is a muslim from Cornell university, just in case you feel there is foul play. They even have copy right act on this work making it all the more official. please remove your blog links. There are many blog sites caliming the muslim population in India is more than 250 million. Are you going to believe that too?

This page on mysore is only on Mysore city and not Mysore district...common you should be talking only about mysore and not the district. there is a different place on wikipedia where you can put your articles on "mysore district". Hope this make sense.

Please don't communalise this artile , the whole world knows that india is secular and festivals of all faiths and religions are celebrated in all towns and citis, so why tell that in culture and demographics of Mysore that there is a mosque and muslims in mysore., let the article highlight the real Mysore, the cultural capital of Karnataka.-- Ganesha1 14:40, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
The move of this article is entirely premature - do you know how many hits "Mysuru" gets on Google? A grand total of 850, as opposed to nearly 6 million for Mysore. Wikipedia should reflect current English language usage, it is not a tool for persuading people to back a controversial and narrow-minded renaming policy. None of these Karnataka articles should have been moved: since when has the Government of Karnataka had the right to dictate English language usage? All these places were known by their Kannada names in Kannada anyway. Attempting to force the use of these forms in English is highly politicised and reflects a narrow ethnic and linguistic chauvinism, just as it was when the Shiv Sena changed Bombay to Mumbai. If popular usage shifts to "Bengaluru" and "Mysuru" then fine, but "official" policy has no bearing on this whatsoever. It's Moscow, not Moskva, Florence, not Firenze, Germany, not Deutschland.

Hi This is an informal poll, please vote for the streets and non-tourist locations to be covered in this article. Please note, if you can get pictures of the same or interesting facts (like when it was built, important people, places) it will be more interesting. I am voting for the following
This can be added to a seperate page, with a brief write up appearing in the main page (If you are reorganizing something already on this page, please add a main article and a brief write up on the main page). -- Pradeep 02:09, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

I am not sure why KB Ganapathy's name was removed. He is the editor of the largest circulating dailies in Mysore. I am reverting the edit. -- Wikicheng 03:55, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
I have removed these names because there are hundreds of business promoters and professor's in mysore and giving their contact numbers sounds pathetic!

Are there any criteria for naming "noted" people in the page for a city? Is it sufficient that they are well known in that city, or should they be people who enjoy broader popularity/notoriety?

I think Mr pradeep wants an ideal picture painted and does not want reality to intrude. He did the same thing to me in another article. I disagree with his point of view. I believe people are more interested in reality than a fantasy about India. In any case, we write about what we can get reliable verifiable references about -- and I consider The Hindu to be a reliable verifiable source.
No one "owns" this article. ABSmyth 00:13, 23 August 2006 (UTC)
The article misses "Famous people of mysore" like Mirza ismail, K B ganapathy, R.K. Laxman, N.R. Narayana Murthy, Tipu Sultan should be added. "Culture" should also include festivals of all faiths.

Why the blazes should Indian names be any different? Sikandarji 10:34, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
