@ WWGB: You sure about removing that tag, seems like a current event to me!! I wouldn't be surprised if the editing picked up on it. Btw, wasn't sure what project template to put on this. Govvy ( talk) 14:18, 26 September 2020 (UTC)
Anyone have any idea what iwi (tribe) Ratana was affiliated to? It's socially and culturally an important thing to note on articles related to people of Maori descent. Grutness... wha? 13:55, 27 September 2020 (UTC)
A discussion is taking place to address the redirect Murder of Matiu Ratana. The discussion will occur at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2020 September 28#Murder of Matiu Ratana until a consensus is reached, and readers of this page are welcome to contribute to the discussion. -- DeFacto ( talk). 06:18, 28 September 2020 (UTC)
My edit adding "Matt" was just reverted, with the reason giving that nicknames would not be reported (although that's not a rule per WP:NICKNAME). Given that I get more than twice as many Google results for "Matt", rather than "Matui", and many news outlets only reporting using "Matt" (see for example [1], [2], or [3]), I think it should be included. Even the CPS uses Matt, rather than Matiu (see [4]). — Arcaist (contr —talk) 12:02, 17 August 2021 (UTC)
I propose moving this to murder of Matt Ratana now there has been a murder conviction. This is Paul ( talk) 14:27, 23 June 2023 (UTC)
There seems to be some contradiction over the length of Ratana's police service. The page currently states that, "He moved to England in 1989, working for the Metropolitan Police for nearly 30 years," but also that he, "also served with New Zealand Police joining the British High Commission Wing in 2003 and serving in the Auckland City and Counties Manukau police districts before returning to the UK in 2008." 2003 to 2008 is obviously five years, but if he joined the Met in 1989 and was murdered in 2020, that's 31 years. Do we have any sources which clarify exactly what happened (I would presume initial Met service, return to NZ, then back to the UK/Met)?
