Identification
Since the subject and the victim have the same last name, the MOS standard of referring to the subject by last name should not be followed here. Suggest using full first and last name, unless there is an adequate antecedent to use the pronoun "she".

They didn't- that was apparently one of the things that DeVault reported prompted the assaults, as she refused to take her husband's name.
