"Character Rights" Rumor

Please. Please. PLEASE. Let's get rid of the "Mighty no longer appears in games is because his creator left SEGA and took the rights to use the character with him[2];" statement. Why?

  • Contrary to popular belief, the most likely designer of Mighty the Armadillo is not Naoto Ohshima, but in fact Manabu Kusunoki, who is the only person listed both as a designer in SegaSonic the Hedgehog [1] and Knuckles' Chaotix [2].
  • Manabu Kusunoki was with Sonic Team at least until Sonic Adventure, where he/she is credited; Kusunoki appear to be one of the developers who split for Artoon.
  • It is against BASIC BUSINESS PRINCIPLES to not have a clause, especially in creative environments such as video game developement, to say that content created on the clock is the property of the corporation, not the individual. Chaos would ensue if that was the case.
  • For a comparable example, Yasushi Yamaguchi, well-documented as the designer of Tails, left Sega completely in 1995; however, the Tails character is in use to this day.

I'm sorry to get so detailed, but this is one of my biggest pet peeves of the fandom. - ScarredSun 19:04, 4 July 2006 (UTC) reply

Cut from Sonic Heroes

Shouldn't there be a bit stating what may be obvious, that Mighty could have been "removed" so the Chaotix could fit into the three person party arrangement of Sonic Heroes? It always seemed obvious that was what happened as soon as he disappeared. Philtrauferson 00:29, 21 October 2006

I agree. Oneupthextraman 18:49, 1 November 2006 (UTC) reply

Someone needs to add that it's obvious he was removed because: SEGA and Sonic Team only needed three characters, Fly, Speed, and Power. They were probably lost for characters, so they used the old chaotix characters. The team had four charcaters however, so they had to 'fire' an unimportant/unecessary character. They had the roles they needed from Charmy, Vector, and Espio. Mighty was removed. I'm not doing it, it'll turn out wrong, and won't fit in there. Elemento 18:09, 13 February 2007 (UTC) reply

Bring back or not

Here's a new place to discuss the proposed merge to Chaotix, since there doesn't seem to be a clear consensus in either direction anywhere else. I personally think it should be merged, but the current article should be kept intact until a consensus has been reached. -- Libertyernie2 19:46, 1 May 2007 (UTC) reply

There was a decision to merge all minor characters on the minor character talk page; there is no need for this. The only people that object are random fans who can't muster up anything besides arguments covered by WP:ATA. The only reason the page is up is because the anon will just continue to revert it. Even if there is another consensus, he'll just claim it isn't a true consensus or something. Nemu 19:51, 1 May 2007 (UTC) reply

P.S. The discussion on the other characters page was not a true consensus in my opinion, as Mighty was only mentioned with a lot of other characters and in passing. -- Libertyernie2 17:28, 9 May 2007 (UTC) reply

Mighty is one of the oldest characters in the entire franchise, being the prototype for Sonic the Hedgehog. Even if you go by his first actual appearance he still appears before even Knuckles the Echidna. He's been playable in two complete games (neither of them being any sort of racing game or party game) in addition to making a cameo in another and having a role in both the major Sonic comics (and the Knuckles spin-off and various miniseries). I am personally of the opinion that any playable Sonic character that has appeared in multiple games with at least one of them being a platformer (so that doesn't include people like Ray, Lumina, Tails Doll, etc.) should have their own profile page. However, that is far more debateable and I don't want to get into all that. Mighty however definately has enough points of interests to maintain his own page. Especially when one factors in that he has recently been gaining popularity due to his ommission (ie. getting a surge of popularity which caused several false rumors about cut material when Sonic Heroes came out). There's also the misconceptions about his character (such as him having super strength, because of the comics) which his page used to clarify.

Additionally, my major beef here aside from the redirect based on a discussion located entirely elsewhere is that there has been no effort to expand Mighty's tiny section on the new page by those who wish to redirect him, so much of the information goes away. Plus the fact that he really would probably belong on the Other Characters page instead of the Chaotix page as outside of the comics he seems to not be affiliated with the team any longer. Furthermore, I just don't see the point in needlessly cramming a page with a tiny bit of information about a lot of characters, when the characters could support their own (fleshed out) page and not crowd the other one. I mean, you don't see people trying to redirect Bloodwynd, Rocket Red, and Ice all under a "Justice League" page just because they don't have tons and tons of information.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.27.127.30 ( talkcontribs)

His importance to the fans means nothing; his roles are minimal, and they don't need much explanation. Most of the information on the page was pure fluff, not encyclopedic information. He really doesn't need more than two paragraphs to explain that he exists and what he is like. There isn't much past that. You are free to move him to the others page if you would like. Nemu 22:43, 4 May 2007 (UTC) reply

Since he's made appearances when the Chaotix have been absent, I'd agree with moving him to the Others page. -- Danish Ranger 17:54, 5 May 2007 (UTC) reply

I second that. Also, he shouldn't have his own page unless Espio, Charmy and Vector do - they have more info to convey. (Thanks to all of you for being civil here. It's a far cry from the Missingno. discussions.) -- Libertyernie2 22:20, 5 May 2007 (UTC) reply
