The second paragraph says: "Microsoft spent about $6 billion annually in research initiatives from 2002 to 2010 and has spent from $10–14 billion annually since 2010" and then cites articles talking about Microsoft's R&D line item from the financials as evidence. The vast, vast majority of MSFT's R&D spending is for development, so concluding that it's all being spent in "research initiatives" is incorrect.
