Merrick's paintings
When I toured the museum in fall 2006 (wow! that long ago!) for a college class, I was told that Merrick had become so dissatisfied with his paintings (reason not specified, if I remember rightly) that he burned them or otherwise destroyed them himself. Might be good to check and see if any WP:RS documents can back up this idea.
