Nah it's fine - 1899 was the act which abolished it, which took effect at the 1901 election.

Perhaps I should have said in 1901. This is the parliament following the 1901 election. According to the
Cornthwaite Rason page, he held the seat of
Guildford at this time.

Why did Doherty only serve until 1903?

Black & Bolton p 65 just says "- Aug 1903 (resigned)". text suggests he returned to England. 26 Aug 03 by-election was won by John Ferguson by 6 votes against Labor's James Ives. (Black & Prescott p105) Ferguson was defeated by Bolton in 1904. Thanks for pointing this out - seems we were missing an MP!
