I have serious doubts about the encyclopedic importance of this section. Everyone and their dog has an unpublished novel.

Agreed. (Well, not about everyone's dog having an unpublished novel. At the moment I don't have a dog, and the last dog I did have only wrote non-fiction. :-))
I think the whole discussion of unpublished work in this section and the "Early life" section should be shortened to include only things that are directly relevant to the author's biography, like maybe his only having half-siblings or trying to tell his parents he wasn't a devout Christian. Everything else, like dates and plot summaries, should go. Anyone who cares about more details can go read the reference.
