Can anyone clarify the spelling of this guy's name? An internet search indicates some ambiguity between 'Mathew' and 'Matthew'—Preceding unsigned comment added by Ziggurat ( talk • contribs) 03:14, 22 September 2004 (UTC)
Yes, I have concluded that the correct spelling is with a single "t", even though there are several high quality references using the double "t" spelling. [1] [2]" [3] BATHE, B.W. : G.B. RUBEN DE CERVIN.: E. TAILLEMITE The Great Age of Sail. Edita Lausanne. 1967. Page 44 refers to the drawing by Matthew Baker. The single "t" spelling is authenticated by Stephen Johnston because it is the spelling used by Baker himself and the spelling used in his will. The shift to the double "t" spelling must have been to correct it to the current spelling. [1] Tvbanfield 15:39, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
removed this information as not associated with subject, will drop it into the Richard Chapman article "Pett's sister married John Chapman, Master Shipwright, whose own son Richard Chapman was born in 1620, who was to become Master Shipwright of Woolwich and Deptford and build the 'Ark', and was raised in the Pett household," Jekoko 02:29, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Mathew Baker → Mathew Baker (shipwright) – As pointed out above under Talk:Mathew Baker#Untitled, subject's name has also been referenced as "Matthew Baker". Those searching for the shipwright under the given name "Matthew" or for other men named "Matthew Baker", but possibly typing "Mathew Baker", would be best served by " Mathew Baker" redirecting to the Matthew Baker disambiguation page. Category:English shipwrights lists five entries that use the parenthetical qualifier "(shipwright)" and one that uses "(shipbuilder)". If, however, consensus were to prefer "(shipbuilder)", I would not oppose such a qualifier. This nomination is tangentially related to the still-active RM at Talk:Matt Baker (presenter)#Requested move 2 February 2022 in that the name "Matt Baker" also redirects to the Matthew Baker disambiguation page. — Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 01:24, 22 February 2022 (UTC)
