Do we actually have any valid information that the Rainbow Road from this game is the beta from Mario Kart 64? I've heard the rumor too, but unless a source from Nintendo is cited, I think it should be removed. The same goes for the intended launch title release. It's all well and good to speculate, but you can't post things you don't know as facts. Also, should we trim it even further by removing the tidbits about unlockables and King Boo? At the very least, it deserves some reformatting (it seems to "break" from the article's writing style) -- • An_User • 12:16, 20 February 2006 (UTC)
I noticed that in this video of a normal race, when the user activated the ghost item at 0:20, he didn't turn transparent, as characters did in other Mario Kart games to indicate that they had turned invisible. Thus, I'm not sure whether using the Ghost item causes invisibility in racing mode.
This does, however, prove it's avalible in modes other than battle. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 70.114.203.249 ( talk • contribs) .
The current category sorting of the items is not fully correct, since many of the items can be obtained outside of their category, depending on the Item rating of the player's kart. It also is not accurate when there are less than eight players in a race. It needs to be reworded a bit to note that the item categories are not set in stone. -- Poiuyt Man talk 04:55, 24 December 2005 (UTC)
Well, we can just put a note saying that it is the karts with average item stats that it is for. I think they are in fact correct for all item stats; all high item stats do is increase your chance of getting Triple Shells, Bananas, and Mushrooms as opposed to their single counterparts, make items such as Bullet Bills and Stars last longer on you, increase the amount of time items such as Thunderbolts and Bloopers affect you for, and give you more Mushrooms for Time Trial. I think items can only be obtained outside the category if you steal them with a Boo, or get them in a different category to when you ran over the Item, as the Roulette is determined by the position you are in when you get the Item Box. For example, if you run over an Item Box in second, move up to first while the Roulette is going, and get a Mushroom (a 2nd-3rd item), it is because you were in second when you ran over the Item Box. If you are sure that it does affect the categories, give your evidence and we can maybe put up the note mentioned earlier.

====Leading On==== Another tactic is the use of "leading on." It is done when a player goes in the path of a dropped item, like a banana or a shell when there is an opponent behind the player. Once the player reaches within mere feet of the item, he or she will move out of the way. If done correctly, the opponent will smash into that item.
