If anyone has Santamaria's Diccionario de mejicanismos, it probably confirms that "Tules" is a nicknamed for "Gertrudis". (A Web search will also confirm that other women named Gertrudis have been nicknamed Tules.) Although the speculation that it's connected with reeds is well sourced, I'm not sure the article needs it. — JerryFriedman (Talk) 23:03, 24 January 2012 (UTC) reply
