Reviewing...New enough, long enough. Hook is interesting, in article, followed by in-line citation to a reference with hook fact. No copyvio issues. Not stub. Will complete soon.

Hi, I came by to promote this, but I think you need stronger sourcing to verify that she "refuses to speak English in Parliament". Right now you only have a headline in a news24 article, with nothing to back it up in the article.

Lefcentreright: I'm not talking about adding references to this template. I'm talking about adding more sources to the article that actually verify her "refusal". Perhaps she did an interview in which she explains her decision?

Yoninah: Hi, there. There are two sources (actually three) in the article that verify that she refuses to speak English in Parliament. The one from News24 that was the initial source for the hook, the second source from News24 that I added a few moments ago, and then one from The Citizen which contains an excerpt. The initial hook source is an interview. Regards,

Lefcentreright: Are we talking about The Citizen cite? Because that doesn't say she refuses to speak in English; it says she insists on speaking Zulu.

Yoninah: There are two sources confirming her refusal to speak English (the two from News24). I believe The Citizen can be classed one too. How many do you insist the article should have?

Lefcentreright: I'm sorry I'm not making myself clear. The only place it says she refuses to speak English is in the headline of one news24 page. The body of the article on that page doesn't say any more about "refusing", just that she insists on speaking Zulu. The second news24 article only speaks about her insistence on speaking Zulu, saying she doesn't feel comfortable in English. The Citizen source, ditto. I am concerned about
OR here. If your hook would say that she insists on speaking Zulu in the Parliament, that would be accurate and verified.

By the way, I did a Google search and I see that because you wrote in the article "she refuses to speak English in Parliament", the Google search engine says she is "known for refusing to speak English in Parliament". If you cannot find other sources that say this, other than an attention-grabbing headline, please excise it from your article. Thanks,

Lefcentreright:Well, I suggest you write the article based on the sources. All of them say she insists on speaking Zulu in the Parliament, so rewrite the lead and body of the article to reflect that. Don't assign her any motivations beyond those you see in the sources. You could also add that she feels uncomfortable in English, per the second news24 source. Then we can go with your second hook but shorten it to:
ALT1a: ... that South African Member of Parliament Makoti Khawula insists on speaking and being addressed in
isiZulu while in the Parliament?
Alternately, you could change the second mention of "Parliament" to "the legislature" or "the assembly" or whatever it is. Thanks,

Yoninah: She also speaks isiXhosa...I've updated the article.

Lefcentreright: Thank you, that's much better. So what hook wording would you like to go with? Do you want to add
isiXhosa to ALT1a, or is ALT1a good enough?
Yoninah (

@
Yoninah: I would prefer it if isiXhosa is added to ALT1a. Thanks.

Great. Here is the proposed hook:
ALT1b: ... that South African Member of Parliament Makoti Khawula insists on speaking and being addressed in
isiZulu and
isiXhosa while in Parliament?
@
Whispyhistory: would you mind reviewing the additional fact added to ALT1a? Then I can promote it. Thanks so much for working this out with me,
Lefcentreright, so it doesn't end up at
WP:ERRORS.

to ALT1b. The hook is within length. "insists on speaking and being addressed in" are in the article and are followed by citations to references with the hook fact in. Thank you both. It looks okay to me.

Thanks everyone who helped get this to
DYK. The hook was much better than some of the stuff that's been seen at DYK over the last few years...
