Regarding the above, I think it matters that there was a Lyceum Company, and that the Company of Irving's time had to contain actors to act with him, not "dolls," as he put it. I also think it matters that this particular actress was made part of that company in old age, having the reputation and skill to justify her inclusion on Irving's terms. She was no doll. And I do not edit-war, so please do not exaggerate - I only undid one edit. Storye book ( talk) 12:44, 13 January 2019 (UTC)
"In 1939, the London County Council bought the building, with plans to demolish it to make room for road improvement."
I was curious about this part of the article so did a bit of research. I can't access any sources reliable enough to cite, but I present the clues I did find -
Most information about planned demolition for roadbuilding relates to the post-war London Ringways project. This proposal was, obviously, older, and has its origins in the Highway Development Survey of 1937.
I have found a map of this proposal, but it hasn't been digitised. However, it seems to show a major trunk road junction on the site of the Lyceum.
If someone can access an archival copy of this, then we can use it to cite the planned demolition and what exactly was going to be built here. ElectronicsForDogs ( talk) 21:41, 16 August 2023 (UTC)
