Since he is associated with 4 articles in wikipedia, I figured I should add the stub. The reasons brought up for deleting the article in the first place are no longer the case. If someone could please improve on this article I would highly appreciate it. If you would like to delete the article please discuss it here before doing so, thanks. For reference the 4 articles are: Human-based computation, CAPTCHA, Guessing game, and ESP Game. -- JVittes 06:33, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
I honestly wonder if "He is quoted several times on cmubash.org." should be listed here, it doesn't seem encyclopedic, I know the page needs work, and I'll get to it eventually. -- JVittes 17:17, 1 July 2006 (UTC)
Here is a link to a ~1 hour lecture by von Ahn on Google Video regarding image recognition. It may be relevant, but I have not watched it in its entirety. f I correctly recall, the lecture was delivered at the Google campus on 26 July 2006: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-8246463980976635143 Also, isn't it redundant to mention his MacArthur status twice in the article? Nice article on a wiki used in class at CMU. But the headline must mean open to all students, and not the public. http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/07042/761175-298.stm
Perhaps the popular press article should get a pointer on his page? Rauterkus 02:53, 12 February 2007 (UTC)
The article on Luis is slightly more than a stub. Only a few users have posted on the talk page, indicating that few people are working on the article. One of the posters, JVittes, writes: "If someone could please improve on this article I would highly appreciate it." I will add more info to the page. I am Luis's student, and I have read his papers so I can easily write more about him and his research. 2:00pm, 7 September 2007 (EST)
I've reinserted the original paragraph about Giramacristo's Puzzle. This homework assignment was not very interesting by itself. The unique thing about it was that von Ahn posted the solution first, just to see if any of his students would look at it. This was the entire and sole purpose of mathpuzzlesgallore.org, and the web site contains nothing but the solution to that one puzzle. [1] The puzzle itself wasn't the point of the paragraph, the point was von Ahn's unconventional approach. -- CMUalum ( talk) 02:43, 15 February 2009 (UTC)
The article currently lists the birth year as 1979, but some of the cited references (such as for the reputable MacArthur Foundation) give the year as 1978. Which is it? (Also, is there any information on the birth date?) Thanks.... 75.44.62.252 ( talk) 16:56, 4 July 2009 (UTC)
Shouldn't entrepreneur be after Professor in his title. There are lots of greasy fingers out there but only a few thinkers. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.16.240.64 ( talk) 06:26, 15 January 2010 (UTC)
This article describes Luis' advisor, Manual Blum simply as being, "well-known for advising some of the most prominent researchers in the field of computer science." This is somewhat laughable, since Manuel has won a Turing award. Perhaps this could be expanded a bit? Nels Beckman ( talk) 17:08, 23 January 2011 (UTC)
There is currently insufficient evidence to suggest von Ahn is a Twitter thief. The cited Twitter post is an unreliable source and relates to a topic in a forum post. With reliable evidence to prove undue influence was involved and this element was unethical, perhaps it would best belong in an informative section that would leave few misunderstandings given this potentially slanderous title. It seems unjustified to give more weight to this than his more publicized roles as an entrepreneur and CMU Computer Science professor in the lead-in. 75.37.21.202 ( talk) 03:37, 23 June 2014 (UTC)

This is interesting history, but the 19th century German immigrants were not Jews, and Luis’s parents immigrated after WW II. They were physicians, not coffee planters. So irrelevant. 107.15.211.32 ( talk) 15:13, 30 June 2022 (UTC)
